July 04, 2025

A St Catherine woman, Disanthia Ainsworth, has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the theft of over $1 million from a parked vehicle in Spanish Town on June 11.

In the St Catherine Parish Court Ainsworth admitted to simple larceny and malicious destruction of property.

She was remanded until September 2, when she is scheduled to be sentenced.

In the meantime, Acting Senior Parish Court Judge Janelle Nelson-Gayle has ordered a social enquiry report and asked the Financial Investigations Division to clarify why the stolen funds remain in police custody.

Facts are that on June 11, the complainant parked his vehicle in a parking lot in Spanish Town.

Upon his return, he discovered that a window on the vehicle had been smashed and that $1.2 million was missing.

He reported the matter to the police, and with the assistance of Jamaica Eye, a vehicle carrying Ainsworth was intercepted.

She was taken into police custody and subsequently charged.
