PM calls for swift justice in deadly attack on cop’s family
Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness used the platform of Sunday's political rally to call for swift justice in the probe of the deadly attack on a policeman and his family.
Holness was speaking at the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) mass rally in Half-Way Tree.
"I want to send my condolence(s) to that family. I know that the police high command is working on that case and I know that those persons who committed that heinous act, that they will see justice and swiftly," Holness said.
The spouse of the policeman, who works with the lottery scamming task force, was shot and killed, while the cop and his young son were seriously injured in a gun attack in Reading, on the outskirts of Montego Bay, St James, on Saturday.
The incident reportedly occurred about 8:39 p.m.
The policeman and the child are reportedly in critical condition in hospital.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is appealing to the public for information following the deadly attack on one of its members.
The JCF assured the public that it will conduct a thorough and swift investigation, employing all available resources to bring those responsible to justice.
The incident has drawn condemnation from Minister of National Security Dr Horace Chang and Opposition Spokesman on National Security Senator Peter Bunting, who have expressed condolences and called for decisive action against violent crime.
