Peanut porridge and corn soup vendor Oral Powell has one of the most visited food spots in Manchester, along the Spur Tree main road.

They say 'belief kill and belief cure', and some persons, from sons and daughters of the soil to foreigners, believe wholeheartedly that Oral Powell's peanut porridge not only gives them sexual stamina, but could be a fertility booster as well.

It was mid-morning when members of THE STAR team stopped at Powell's stall, located in Spur Tree, Manchester. Photographer Ian Allen quickly gulped down a cup of the peanut-laced goodness, later stating that he had received much vigour from just an eight-ounce cup.

Powell opined that what makes his peanut porridge the most sought-after in that area, is the taste and richness served in every cup. Like his customers, he believes the ingredients are sufficient to turn a gelding into a father.

"The appearance and the taste is different. To me, anything that the body intake can give you stamina. People say the porridge is good enough to boost pregnancy and that can happen because we are what we consume. All I know that I have a taste plan for it that I work with for almost 30 years and it is working," he said.

Powell has been boosting the ego of both men and women with his 'stamina'-inducing peanut porridge for decades. But, prior to that, he had started his small business by selling fruits. Later on corn soup was added to his menu.

"Before 5 a.m. mi out here a prepare porridge and most days I sell off. After the porridge done, mi do soup and corn for the rest of the day. My brother do porridge as well so we share this space," Powell said.

With most of his porridge already gone by the time the news team stopped by, Powell then turned his attention to the huge pot of corn soup that his customers had already began flocking towards.

"The warm and friendly customer service that my brother and I serve up is also a plus. People love the soup and porridge and dem look forward to stop here daily. Tourists even go home and tell dem friends and recommend us. We love doing what we do so that add flavour to the pot dem," he said.
