Man killed in police confrontation in Rock Hall, St Andrew

An investigation has been launched into the murder of a man who was gunned down by police this morning in Rock Hall, St Andrew.

The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Joel Alphonso, of a Rock Hall address.

The incident occurred at about 4:35 a.m.

He was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The police say a firearm was seized during the incident.

The Constant Spring Criminal Investigation Branch is also investigating.

The Independent Commission of Investigation is probing the matter.

As of August 12, some 194 persons have been fatally shot by the security forces, including four so far this month.
