St Catherine man fatally shot after allegedly pointing gun at police
A St Catherine man who allegedly pointed a gun at the police during an operation was fatally shot on Thursday.
He has been identified as Javian Johnson, otherwise called "J", of Wakefield, Backlands, Linstead, St Catherine.
Reports are that about 6:00 a.m., police personnel were conducting targeted operations in Backlands. The team went to a premises where Johnson was accosted and the location searched.
He then reportedly led the police to a Nissan motorcar, entered the vehicle, grabbed a handgun, and pointed it at the lawmen. The police took evasive action and opened fire, injuring Johnson.
A Browning pistol fitted with a magazine containing four 9mm rounds was seized.
Johnson was assisted to the Linstead Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Independent Commission of Investigations has launched a probe into the matter.
