PNP candidate promises Jamaica's first university town in St Andrew Eastern
People's National Party (PNP) candidate for St Andrew Eastern, Patricia Duncan Sutherland, announces constituency will have the first university town in Jamaica if party wins upcoming election.
The constituency is home to the University of Technology, Jamaica and University of the West Indies, Mona campus.
Duncan Sutherland said the creation of the proposed town would provide an economic boom for residents.
"Because of that university town we are going to generate so much economic activity that we are going to lift the lives of all of the people," she said on Monday.
Duncan Sutherland was nominated shorty after 10:00 a.m.
She is expected to go up against the Jamaica Labour Party incumbent Fayval Williams, the Minister of Finance and the Public Service, who is seeking a third straight term as Member of Parliament for St Andrew Eastern.
