Nine escape Constant Spring lock-up, one recaptured

A high-level probe has been launched into a major jailbreak at the Constant Spring police lock-up this morning, where nine inmates made their escape.

The men reportedly cut open a section of the lock-up to make their getaway.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force reports that one of them has since been recaptured. He is 45-year-old, David Rhoden of Malvern Avenue in Kingston.

A manhunt is underway for the remaining eight.

The escapees are facing serious charges ranging from murder and rape to firearm offences, lottery scamming, and larceny.

The escapees are:

* Alunzo Espute, 19-years-old, of Cassava Piece in Kingston 8. He was charged with murder.

* Brandon Ennis, 27-years-old, of Belvedere in Red Hills. he was charged with possession of prohibited weapon.

* Talik Chambers, 23-years-old, of Burlington Avenue in Kingston 10. He was charged with identity theft.

* Dorique Douglas, 25- year- old, of Upper Oxford Street in Kingston. He was charged with wounding with intent, shooting with intent and malicious destruction of property.

* Fray Messias, 18-years-old, of Pinto in Stony Hills in St. Andrew. He was charged with rape.

* Richard Bishop, 19-years-old, of Olympic Way in Kingston. He was charged with burglary and larceny.

* Junior Anthony Barnes, a 31-year-old of Iron River in Golden Spring. He was charged with possession of prohibited weapon and unauthorised ammunition.

* Kamal Kelly, 25-years-old of Mannings Hill District in Stony Hill, St Andrew. He was charged with shooting with intent.

The JCF says "immediate measures have been put in place" to recapture the escapees, with resources deployed islandwide. The police also stressed that the matter is being treated with the "highest level of urgency," and all assets are being utilised to return the men to custody.

Members of the public are being urged to assist by contacting the Constant Spring Police at 876-924-1421, the police emergency number 119, Crime Stop at 311, or the nearest police station with any information.

The police are also reminding Jamaicans that it is a criminal offence to harbour fugitives.
