Killer Bean rules them all - Crowned Red Bull Dance Your Style champ
The crowd was the deciding factor at the 2025 Red Bull Dance Your Style National Finals at Devon House on Saturday.
Sixteen dancers entered the final competition, and it came down to two: Tevin 'Killer Bean' Shaw and Trisann 'Sylva Dubaibaby' Dough. After three, one-minute rounds of intense dance clashes between them, it was Killer Bean who emerged victorious, cementing his spot as Jamaica's 2025 champion. The 33-year-old, who has dedicated his life to dance, is utterly grateful for the win and spoke to THE STAR about his plans of taking his dancing to the world stage moments after raising the trophy.
"I'm just bringing energy, surprise, and [aiming] to represent my country - let people see what Jamaica can really do. I'm very excited. My aim is to take the trophy back home to Jamaica," said Killer Bean. For the dancer, preparing for the world stage will require discipline and refinement.
"I need to tighten up my movements, be cleaner, and bring a few wow factors. But mostly, I want to get out of my head, have fun, and represent Jamaica well," he said.
His success is also a win for his crew, Sopreme Blazzaz. Fellow dancer Stunna, who has been by his side throughout, expressed deep pride in his teammate's victory.
"It's a big accomplishment, not just for the team, but for him. He's a really good person, a good leader, very talented, and he deserves it," he said. "Even if he didn't win, we'd still be proud, just entering and coming this far. We just want him to represent Jamaica to the best of his ability. Bro, we have your back!"
But the final event wasn't a one-sided affair. Second-place winner Sylva Dubaibaby, a single mother and dancer from the Princess hotel in Hanover, gave the winner a fierce run for his money.
"It's unexpected. I wasn't expecting to come so far, but I'm proud of myself. My friends are even more proud of me than I am," she admitted after securing second place. "Killer Bean is a powerful dancer. He has this energy about him that I love. His personality, his versatility, everything, he has this, and I wish him the best. He deserves it."
Sylva Dubaibaby's journey was particularly inspiring given her demanding schedule. One of her supporters, Jevauni McKenzie, highlighted her dedication:
"Sylva works a nine-to-five and a four-to-12 shift, so she had no time to rehearse. To still come here and place second is amazing. She is representing Negril, Hanover and Montego Bay. She is a talented and versatile dancer, and we're so proud of her," said McKenzie.
Veteran dancer and host of the final, Latonya Style, praised the competition for its global reach and highlighted why dancers should enter.
"Red Bull Dance Your Style is a world international competition, so the exposure that you get is not normal. They get a lot of attention, not only locally, but also internationally. Plus, they get an all-expense paid trip if they win to go represent their country in another country," she said. The competition made its debut in Jamaica in 2018.
