UTech in driver's seat
Play in the preliminary round of the Intercol Table Tennis competition ended with University of Technology (UTech) males blanking visitors G.C. Foster 5-0.
On the females side in the planned double-header, UTech conceded points to G.C. Foster for a 3-0 scoreline.
UTech males, who are three-times defending champions, won all their preliminary round matches to end with maximum eight points, ahead of University of the West Indies (UWI) with six points, and G.C. Foster College, three points. The top two finishers, UTech and UWI, will contest the final.
G.C. Foster females ended with three points ahead of UTech two points, and the two teams will meet again in the final. The winner will be a new champion as six-time defending champions UWI did not enter a female team this year.
UTech are coached by Colin McNeish, UWI by Sandra Riettie and G.C. Foster by Shayne Frost.
In individual results, Alexander Thomas, Glen-Ross McDonald, Curtis Dehaney and former three-time national champion Kane Watson all registered easy 3-0 singles match wins over Kemal Russell, Oral Wiltshire, Travis-Dale Martin and Sheldon Price, respectively.
Thomas and Dehaney overpowered Russell and Wiltshire 3-0 in doubles, to complete the 5-0 triumph for UTech.
