JAAA to visit likely camp site in Rio

January 20, 2016

The Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) is working to secure a location for its pre-Games team camp in the Olympic city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

That's the word from JAAA president Warren Blake. According to Blake, a JAAA technical team will shortly visit a potential site to assess its suitability.

The local athletics federation has found it difficult to secure a suitable location. As Blake said, "Normally, by this time, the location of the camp is finalised,".

Therefore, the JAAA has been contemplating other options. Those included staging the camp in Sao Paolo, which is three hours away from Rio by air. This, he said, was deemed unsuitable.

"So we toyed with the idea of staying in Jamaica and having a camp here," he said in a recent interview, "or having a camp in Miami, but very suddenly, somewhere has come up which on the surface of it looks very good inside of Rio itself.

"We are going there with our technical team to look at the location and to see how suitable it is," he explained.
