Bailey scores double for Genk
Jamaican footballer, Leon Bailey, continued his impressive start to the European football season with Belgian first division club Genk on Sunday.
The left winger who turned 19 this month scored the third goal in his team's 3-0 win over Lokeren in week four of the Belgian Pro League.
This to follow up on his goal from the penalty spot in a 2-2 draw away to Croatian club NK Locomotive in the Europa League qualifying first-leg first round match on Thursday at the Kranjceviceva Turf in Zagreb, Croatia.
On Sunday, Mbwana Samata put Genk in front from seven yards after 34 minutes before breaking away to add a second four minutes later to make it 2-0 before the half-time break.
Three minutes into the second-half, the former Kingston College student, latched on to a pass behind the Lokeren defence on the right and with only the goalkeeper to beat, coolly slotted into the far corner with his trusted left foot. The goal was Bailey's first of the Belgian football league season, while the win was Genk's second in four matches. They sit joint fifth in the standings with seven points.
On Thursday, the young attacker also helped his team come away from Croatia with a 2-2 draw against NK Locomotive in the Europa League qualifying first round first-leg match.
Bailey fired home a penalty in the 35th minute to open the scoring, after a Locomotive defender blocked a shot with his arm inside the box. Two minutes after the break Samata made it 2-0 with a header. Locomotive got goals back through Mirko Maric from the spot in the 52nd minute and Ivan Fiolic in the 59th, to earn the draw.
