No Kevona Davis in Carifta squad

Edwin Allen coach Michael Dyke said that star athlete Kevona Davis will not be travelling to Nassau, Bahamas for this weekend's Carifta Games because of injury.

"Kevona has a sore hamstring and the physiotherapist advised me it is in the best interest to rest her," Dyke told STAR Sports. "This is very unfortunate but it is in her best interest and the school and country as we are looking at a bigger picture in the future."

However, despite Davis' cancellation, a 75 member strong contingent will leave the island today for the Games. This team will comprise 34 Under 17s and 41 Under 20 athletes.

A year ago, Jamaica picked up 86 medals, comprising 39 gold, 28 silver and 19 bronze in Willemstad, Curacao. Head coach Machel Woolery, the man also at the helm of Petersfield High, is very optimistic about the team's continued great performances at these Championships.

"Kevona will surely be missed as she was a cinch for two gold medals, but we are still confident that we will dominate the meet and coming off a very great Champs, the athletes are in peak form. So we expect another great medal haul and the vibes among the athletes is great," he said.
