Mount Pleasant Football Academy manager David Galloway has confirmed to STAR Sports that head coach Donovan Duckie has been relieved of his services with the St Ann-based club.

Duckie, who took charge of the team ahead of their debut season in the Red Stripe Premier League, guided the team to the semi-final of the competition, but they finished fourth after, losses to eventual winners Portmore United in the semi-final and Cavalier FC in the third-place play-off.

The 43-year-old then went on to lose the opening game of the new season 2-1 to Harbour View at Drax Hall on Sunday before receiving his official termination from club management.

"Dear Mr Duckie

"The board of Management of Mount Pleasant Football Academy in a meeting led by myself, took the decision to terminate your contract with us with immediate effect.

"We wish to take this opportunity to thank you for your service to us and wish you well in your future endeavours," A letter from club chairman Peter Gould to Duckie, obtained by STAR Sports, said.

When contacted, Duckie said he had no comment on the matter.

Duckie, who has also led the national Under-23 men's team since May 2018, has been under fire this summer after poor results in the Concacaf Under-23 Championships. In this competition, 1-1 draws with Dominica and St Kitts and Nevis saw them eliminated from Olympic qualifying. They then competed in the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, where they lost to Honduras and Uruguay in the group stage. However, a 2-0 win over the hosts saw them advance to the fifth-place play-off, where they lost to Panama.
