This year's Bring Back The Love honourees, Dr Orville Taylor and Michael Ricketts, were appreciative of the award bestowed on them by organiser Clive Campbell during a presentation ceremony in Kingston on Tuesday.

Ricketts, the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) president, was recognised for his stewardship of Jamaica's football.

While, Taylor, a Radio Jamaica broadcaster and university lecturer, received his award for his contribution to media and academia.

"I've been many places," Taylor said. "I have addressed many audiences and have spoken to international organisations.

"So I have been to 'nuff' places and the honours I get might seem significant, but to get an award that, in your heart, you know you probably don't deserve, is one of the biggest honours. I don't deserve it, but I thank you."

Ricketts was equally touched. He said that despite years of sacrifice and contributing to the sport you love, sometimes your contribution is not recognised.

"Some of us have given our lives to football and nobody ever sees us or recognises us," he said. "The only thing left is your life, and there is nobody to say thanks after you have given so much.

"So this award will not go the JFF office. It will be going home and it will be in my room. That is how much I appreciate this award presented to me."

Campbell said the nation is on the verge of losing a generation of youngsters to illiteracy because of issues surrounding online classes and that the focus should now be on them.

"If each of us can encourage them to get back in the school groove, as many may not return to the classroom," he said.

"Help where you can, engage them in meaningful conversations, and remind them that education is the only legal way for them to get out of poverty," he said.

Three Kingston-based clubs, Rae Town, Brown's Town, Boys' Town, and one junior education institution, Richmond Park Preparatory School, were the recipients of footballs donated by former Rae Town, Brown's Town and Kingston College player Basil Wilson.

The annual Bring Back The Love event is an exhibition football competition held each Labour Day. It showcases local celebrities, including sportsmen, entertainers, and respected business persons.
