Assistant coach of Montego Bay United (MBU), Dwayne Ambursley, says the team is currently struggling with confidence after only two points from their last 11 matches in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL).

Montego Bay lost 2-1 to Molynes United on Sunday and Ambursley, who captained MBU to the 2014 and 2016 premier league titles, said their run of form is having a negative impact on the players, who face daily interrogation from fans on their poor performance this season.

"For any group of players, not winning games will always lower your confidence, and with this young group of players it is affecting them on a daily basis," he said.

"They have to face the fans on a daily basis and they have to answer questions as to why they are not winning games and it is not easy for them to deal with," he commented.

Montego Bay returned to the league this season after a two-year absence. They started off the campaign with England-born coach Ricky Hill who quit the post after losing six of his seven matches in charge.

Former player Leacroft Lettman has taken over since with marginal improvement and Ambursley admitted they were hoping for much faster progress.

"Each day we see improvements in certain areas but it is coming a bit too slow for our liking but we still have to keep going, as a unit we will just have to try to pull through it," he continued.

With four defeats in four matches, three in the second round, Ambursley said the aim now is try to and get off the mark with a point first, and then look for a win.

"The objective is to try to get a win as a start. But we have to try and get a point first because we haven't earned a point in this round so far. We have played three games with three losses.

"So we must first try to win one game and then we look at winning two games. But we have to try and get that point first and then take it from there," he said.

Montego Bay currently sit at the bottom of the JPL standings with five points from 14 games.

They have just one win and two draws. Their only win of the season came in 4-1 victory over Molynes United in round three of the competition.

Montego Bay will face Mount Pleasant in their next game on Sunday, April 24.
