Eugene, Oregon:

Double Sprint Olympic champion Elaine Thompson Herah has made her departure from Nike official, signing with Puma.

Thompson released a statement today, saying she is delighted to join a group which includes the fastest man of all time, Usain Bolt.

"PUMA just felt like a right fit, a company that has been working with the World's Fastest Man for decades," Thompson said. "I'm excited to be a part of an elite group and I can't wait to get started."

PUMA Chief Executive Officer Bjorn Gulden said that they want to do whatever they can to assist in her aim to break the 100m world record.

"We are thrilled that Elaine has chosen to join the PUMA family," he said. "With her speed, she embodies everything we stand for as a brand. Elaine ran the second fastest time in history last year (10.54 seconds) and is 0.05 seconds away from the world record. She really targets the 100m world record and we want to help her achieve that goal with our most innovative products."
