Reggae Girlz embarrassed in Houston airport after JFF payment mishap
There were issues for Jamaica's Reggae Girlz on their way back to the island on Tuesday as the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) had not paid to clear their luggage at the George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas.
The team was returning from Monterrey, Mexico after finishing third in the Concacaf Women's Championship on Monday night, and almost missed the connecting flight from Houston to Miami.
"They were given a credit card that wasn't working, by a director," an anonymous source at the JFF told STAR Sports. "The credit card didn't have any cash on it. They transferred some money to one of the staff, but it was her husband's card and that caused one heap of mix up."
The source said however that the matter was eventually dealt with and the players and some staff caught the flight to Miami, while two staff members remained in Houston to travel with the rest of the luggage on Wednesday.
This incident is the latest in a series of travel mishaps related to the JFF and its national teams, as the Reggae Boyz also had difficulty returning to the island from Paramaribo, Suriname after playing that nation in a Concacaf Nations League fixture in early June. That situation was however resolved when the Sport Ministry and Professional Football Jamaica Chairman Christopher Williams stepped in to pay for the team's return flight.
That incident also led to the Reggae Boyz demanding the resignation of JFF General Secretary Dalton Wint. He has since promised his resignation, however it has still not formally been submitted.
