Sasha and Chuck Fenda collaborate
Gospel singer Sasha and Rastafarian DJ Chuck Fenda have created an entertaining single, 'Real Talk', that is already enjoying heavy rotation on a number of local radio stations.
The song is a playful banter alluding to a relationship between the two and the conflicts that accompany such a union. The song is produced by Marvin and Black Pearl.
Born Karen Chin, Sasha is no newcomer to the music industry. In 2004, while still a secular artiste, she enjoyed international success with I'm Still In Love With You, a duet which she recorded with Sean Paul for his Dutty Rock album on Atlantic Records.
The song topped reggae charts globally and peaked at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Although she has walked away from the secular stage since she became a Christian, she is not afraid of being judged on this project as it is reminiscent of her earlier recordings.
"You will always have judgemental tongues. Jesus Christ Himself did some unorthodox things, according to the scribes and Pharisees, so I am not worried," she said.
Commenting on the inspiration for recording the song, she explained: "Fifteen per cent of church members are married men and five per cent are single men. When single Christian women go out there and face the world, they meet men with different beliefs and different cultures."
One of those kinds of men they will encounter are Rastafarians and that, she said, would see them being faced with the issue of being unequally yoked.
"Knowing the Church and the principles, I believe that with God at the helm, all things are possible. And just maybe that individual can be taught the way of Christianity and have a change of heart if the unbeliever is given a chance, rather than shutting the door on them," she reasoned.
She said Real Talk is her way of giving her perspective on the controversial topic.
Sasha, who has recently returned from performances in Canada, England, Italy and Dubai, is now back in Jamaica working on a soon-to-be completed album. She is also scheduled to perform at the St Ann Curry and Music Festival at Grizzly's Plantation Cove on Saturday, November 26, with headliners such as Beenie Man, Agent Sasco, Stitchie and Kevin Downswell.
