Singer dedicates album to mother who died from COVID
Jamaica-born, Connecticut-based reggae artiste Irie AC is getting set to release his latest album, his fifth to be exact, titled In My Own Words. Although most of the songs on the disc are special to him, the one that is closest to his heart is Hallelujah, which was written for his mother, who recently died from COVID-19.
"I dedicate this song to my dear mother, whom I love so much. She knew that the song was coming but did not get the chance to hear it. It is for this reason the album is dedicated to her memory," the singer disclosed.
The 15-track reggae style project will be released later this month and is an exploratory journey that draws heavily on his Jamaican roots, as he reminisces on the traditions, family and friends.
Unlike his previous albums which include Reggae Christmas (2016), Irie AC Essential (2018) and King of Reggae Refix, which was released last year, In My Own Words was written at a time when he was able to reflect on his personal growth and understanding of self.
"I began to appreciate the simpler things in life. Love is what truly surrounds me. When you listen to the album you would agree that most of the songs encompass love in all its forms," he shared.
The album, with all original material, includes tracks such as So Many Girls, Jah Jah Knows, Irie Love' and Chillin'.
It was produced by Christopher Meredith Mario Ramsay, Gale 'Lampshade' Clunie, Brandon Shakespeare and Anthony 'Labworks' Otis and is being released on the Irie AC Management label.
AC, whose given name is Andrew Lloyd Comrie, migrated to the US from Jamaica in 1992 and immediately enlisted in the US Marine. This he said gave him a chance to travel the world and to share his exceptional talent. Since leaving the army, he has focused on singing, releasing his debut album Jam-a-Ica in 2016.
