Narcotics police have commenced a probe following the seizure of more than J$11 million worth of ganja and the arrest of the three foreign nationals by members of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) Coast Guard on Monday.

The men and the drugs were accosted in a boat just south of the Alligator Reef in St Elizabeth, police said.

Reports are that about 2 a.m. the Coast Guards were carrying out patrol in the area when they intercepted a vessel. The vessel was searched, along with the occupants, and found to contain 36 knitted bags with compressed ganja weighing more than 2000 pounds and twenty-five 12-gallon containers with fuel. The three men were subsequently arrested and the vessel seized.

The identities of the men are being withheld pending further investigations. The illicit drug has an estimated street value of J$11 million. Investigations continue.
