Men refuse mediation after cutting each other

Two men from the community of Flankers, who allegedly wounded each other in an altercation, will stand trial in the St James Parish Court on October 18.

Dudley Oates and Osbourne Campbell were slapped with unlawful wounding charges and placed before the courts last Wednesday, but the matter was sent to trial after they refused an offer from Parish Judge Sandria Wong-Small of mediation to settle the matter.

When asked if he would consider going to mediation with Oates to settle their differences, Campbell stoutly refused the offer.

"Him and me cannot resolve anything. You see my face, it chop off," Campbell said.

"Your face is not chopped off, it is very much intact. This did not just start this one day, something has been happening from before," Wong-Small replied.

"No, Your Honour, me and a man were talking and he [Campbell] just butt in. His behaviour is out of order and dirty," Oates interjected.

Although the date of the alleged incident was not disclosed, the court was told that the two men got into a dispute that escalated into a fight. During the brawl, they used sharp instruments to cut each other in their faces.
