'Giant' on housebreaking charge

A man who stands more than seven feet tall had to dip to enter the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court, causing quite a stir when his housebreaking matter was mentioned yesterday.

A woman said: "Eh eh, him can't hide. Him taller than everything ina di house."

Charged with housebreaking is 25-year-old Kevin Williams. He pleaded not guilty.

However, the court heard that Williams confessed to the police that he saw another man in the house in question. The man allegedly called Williams, who went inside.

A 32-inch flat-screen TV, which was later pawned, was allegedly removed along with other items.

The complainant told the court that Williams took the police to a Corporate Area pawnshop, where the TV was taken by the police.

"Please me a beg you, Your Honour, we would want it back. Mi daughter deh home and can't watch nothing," said the complainant.

Williams admitted in court that the other man used his ID at the pawnshop.

The complainant told the court: "Your Honour, we buy the TV fi watch World Cup and not even watch it on it."

Parish judge Jacqueline Wilcot assigned a legal aid attorney to guide Williams who requested representation.

His bail was extended and a fingerprint order made.

Williams is to return to court on August 15 for trial.
