Mad Dawg is the flaming ghost rider - St Bess stunt boss lights up gas tank; Fire Brigade calls it crazy
You may have seen videos of a daredevil motorcyclist setting fire to the gas tank of his bike and then riding off while displaying crazy skills.
The rider, who goes by the name 'Mad Dawg', said he is one of the craziest riders in Jamaica.
Mad Dawg, whose given name is Royan Blake, is one of many riders making his mark on the road. His fiery gas tank stunt has a lot of people talking about him these days, but Mad Dawg insists that he has been delivering "the greatest stunting over six years now".
He said that while he has not given any name to the fiery stunt, people call it "ghost rider style."
Asked if this is not too dangerous, he replied: "We have no fear of death, hell riders wi sey.
"Any stunt a wi, from you sey bike a wi," he added.
Emilio Ebanks, senior deputy superintendent in the Jamaica Fire Brigade, is among those persons who are far from amused, having seen video clips of Mad Dawg setting fire to the gas tank of his bike and riding over in a blaze.
"He is doing something that is extremely dangerous. It is gas and it is extremely volatile," said Ebanks, the brigade's second in command for fire prevention.
"That is death! It is extremely crazy! It is madness! He should stop it immediately, and nobody else should try it," Ebanks stressed.
Mad Dawg is mindful that he could get burnt from playing with fire.
"It is a very dangerous thing," he admitted.
"Mi go a bike show already in Clarendon and while stunting, a vehicle man fly through the show and lick mi off a di bike," he explained.
"Wi have friend weh crash and dead, wi have friends in wheelchair, wi have friend weh lose him hand," he said.
"Mi have a rider in mi group now with pin ina him foot, so wi know it very dangerous, but wi nuh worry about that. Danger come in every field of life; anyway to survive, danger in it, so wi nuh worry," said the New Forrest resident.
Despite the danger, Blake said they always give people the craziness they want to see.
"Mi enjoy it a lot, and even though weh dem pay wi sometimes value 10 times more, wi do it just because we like it."
Blake, who is a scallion farmer in St Elizabeth, said he earns between $15,000 and $30,000 per show. He said that while his farm is suffering from the dry weather "the bike show keeps wi up right now."
