Andre de Grasse is Canada's first 200m Olympic champion since Percy Williams at the 1928 Games.
De Grasse clocked a national record of 19.62 seconds for victory on Wednesday, ahead of the United States' Kenneth Bednarek, who took the silver medal in a personal best 19.68s. His USA teammate, Noah Lyles, claimed bronze in a season's best 19.74s.
Jamaica's Rasheed Dwyer, debuting at the Olympics, was seventh in 20.21s, ahead of Trinidad and Tobago's Jereem Richards, 20.39s.
It's de Grasse's second medal at the Tokyo Games, as he also claimed the bronze medal in the 100m final on Sunday.
