The 208,260 doses of the Pfizer vaccine represents one of the largest donations by a single government to Jamaica.

The first shipment of 208,260 doses of the Pfizer vaccine arrived in Jamaica this morning.

The donation was handed over by United States Embassy Charge d' Affaires Scott Feeken to Jamaican government officials led by Prime Minister Andrew Holness, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, and Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton.

The shipment also includes syringes, needles and dilutants to administer the vaccine, is the first of multiple shipments expected to arrive from the U.S. in the coming weeks and months.

As part of the Biden-Harris administration's committment to share America's vaccine supply, the donation represents one of the largest donations by a single government.

Since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, the U.S. Embassy has contributed over US$10 million in support of Jamaica's fight against the virus.

The arrival of the Pfizer vaccine which the health ministry says it will be prioritising for children and teens, comes just weeks before the projected school term.
