Call centre worker accused of distributing identity info
A customer service representative is set to appear in the Home Circuit Court next month, following allegations that he sold personal identity information.
Jethro Brown is charged with the distribution of identity information of other persons or person, and possession of identity information, pursuant to the Law Reform Act. He did not enter a plea when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Monday.
It is alleged that Brown was employed at a call centre in the Corporate Area, and used his cellular phone to take photos of client's personal information. Prosecutors are awaiting a report from the Communication Forensic and Cybercrime Division of the constabulary, to prove if Brown sold the confidential information he obtained.
"I'm transferring your matter downtown to the Home Circuit Court where jurisdiction lies," Senior Parish Judge Sanchia Burrell said.
The judge also reviewed Brown's bail and added conditions that he reports to the police three times weekly. He must surrender his travel documents and a stop order was imposed. He is currently on $200,000 bail. Brown is to return to court on June 19.
