Aquatic Paradise is a pioneering company founded by 43-year-old Damion Ferguson, who, through his passion for water features, is aiming to popularise outdoor aesthetics across the island.

Founded in 2013, the company initially dipped its toes into various aquatic endeavours before diving head first into the creative world of water features in 2017. When Fegurson watched a TV show titled Tank, which showcased custom aquariums, he found his muse and embarked on a journey that would redefine creativity in the Jamaican space. But the journey hasn't been without its challenges, as Ferguson candidly admits to facing a slow start due to a lack of clientele. However, fate intervened when a client veered from the traditional aquarium request and instead sought a pond, a project that Aquatic Paradise had yet to tackle.

"I had no clue how to do it, but I did my research and went on YouTube. I eventually got it done. It was not 100 per cent, but they were impressed and hired me to do one at their office, and that's how it kicked off," Ferguson recounted, underscoring the pivotal moment that propelled his trajectory in the water feature industry.

With new-found momentum, Aquatic Paradise delved deeper into the realm of water features, with Ferguson dedicating himself to mastering the craft. He pursued certification as a professional contractor in the water gardening industry, honing his skills through seminars and training sessions, both locally and internationally.

"We do custom fountains, water walls, ponds or anything to do with water. Even if you want a river to be made, we can do that as well," Ferguson elaborated, showcasing the breadth of Aquatic Paradise's capabilities.

Navigating misconceptions and price barriers proved to be another hurdle for Ferguson and his team.

"It was hard, because a lot of people don't understand what it takes to do a water feature. A lot of people would be interested, but when a price is quoted, they thought it was too expensive," he said.

Undeterred, the Spanish Town native is now on a mission to educate and inspire, educating potential clients about water features and showcasing the myriad of possibilities they offer. From serene koi ponds to majestic fountains, the company is committed to its versatility and innovation. Koi ponds can start from $350,000, but it all depends on what the clients want.

One of Aquatic Paradise's most ambitious projects to date is the vintage car water fountain which is being completed. "This is a one of a kind in Jamaica. It showcases how creative we can be as a company, stepping outside of the normal concepts that clients are used to in Jamaica," Ferguson said.

Visitors to Aquatic Paradise's Grange Lane location in Portmore are treated to a visual feast, with displays showcasing the possibilities in water feature design. From pumps to liners to filters, the company offers everything enthusiasts need to bring their aquatic dreams to life.

As Aquatic Paradise continues to make waves in the Jamaican water landscape, they are not only reshaping outdoor aesthetics, but also fostering a deeper connection between individuals and their environment. Beyond the visual allure, Ferguson believes in the profound mental benefits of water features, emphasising how the gentle sounds of flowing water can serve to soothe one's mental state, especially after a stressful day.
