$800,000 bail for man accused of 2016 murder

Nearly a decade after a 62-year-old pensioner was fatally stabbed during a dispute in Greenwich Farm, the man accused of killing him has been granted $800,000 bail as the murder case moves through the courts.

Andrew Anderson, 39, a forklift operator of Seventh Street, Greenwich Farm, Kingston 13, is charged with the 2016 murder of Junior Russell, 62, of the same community.

Appearing in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Monday, Anderson was granted $800,000 bail with one or two sureties after his attorney, Priscilla Jennings, successfully argued that he is not a flight risk and has a fixed place of abode with his family.

The court was also shown Anderson's pre-charge bail report book, covering the period March 30, 2025, to September 19, 2025, before he was formally charged.

As part of his bail conditions, Anderson is required to report to the police every Monday, surrender all travel documents and is subject to a stop order at the island's ports of entry and exit.

He is scheduled to return to court on October 27, 2026.

According to the allegations, on July 28, 2016, Russell and Anderson became involved in a dispute that escalated into a physical confrontation. During the incident, Anderson allegedly stabbed Russell in the chest with a knife before fleeing the scene.

Russell was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Following years of investigation, Anderson was charged with murder on June 23, 2026, after participating in a question-and-answer session with investigators.
