Jamaican sprinter Rasheed Dwyer said he has been working his way back to full fitness ahead of the 2019 season.

Dwyer, the 2014 Commonwealth Games champion, told STAR Sports that a series of niggling injuries prevented him from competing at his full potential last season and so he is looking forward to the upcoming season.

"I had some niggling pains in my back and so I am using the off season to see some specialist, so that I can get ready for the upcoming season," said Dwyer.

"I am also going to sit down and talk to my coach to see where we can improve for the upcoming season," he added.

Dwyer, who was a semi-finalist at this year's Commonwealth Games, added that despite his failure to repeat his success from four years ago, he was pleased with his efforts.

"I wasn't disappointed with my performance at the Commonwealth Games because it just basically helped me to come back home and train hard and refocus," said Dwyer, who recorded a season's best time of 20.19 seconds.

The 29-year-old Dwyer, who has a personal best time of 19.80 seconds in the 200m, also narrowly missed out on a medal at the Central America and Caribbean (CAC) Games in Colombia earlier this year, after finishing fourth in the final.

"No season is a disappointment because every season is a stepping stone for the other season," he said. "I was quite happy with my performances this season because I ended my season with 20.19 seconds; it could be better, but I am quite happy."

"I think I start training next month and so I am going to put in some really serious work for the World Championships in Doha next year, and so I am going to train hard to ensure that I get on the team (to the 2019 World Championships)," he said.
