Price wants more from Morrison
Humble Lion head coach Andrew Price has challenged national midfielder Ravel Morrison to display more of his attacking gifts in Jamaica's friendly against Serbia set to kick off at 2 a.m. (Ja time) on Monday.
The match in Japan is the first of a revised two-game international series the Reggae Boyz will play in the country. The original three-game schedule had to be amended as the first match against Japan slated for last week Thursday was cancelled as Jamaica could not field a team for the game. Only 10 players had arrived in the country as several overseas players could not make their connecting flight from Amsterdam because of issues relating to their COVID-19 tests. The seven British-based players which included defender Liam Moore, striker Andre Gray as well as first time call up Blair Turgott arrived in Japan last Thursday with Morrison and defender Adrian Mariappa joining them soon after.
Price said that Morrison who remains without a club since January has to be more involved in the attack and show more of his attack talents which he says are a key asset to how Jamaica will attack going forward.
"Ravel is a quality player and I would love to see him in a more attacking role in the game. Though he has not been with a club I understand that he is in good physical condition, I believe that he brings that extra bit of skill that we need in the middle of the park that can unlock defensive units," Price told STAR Sports.
Morrison's last stint was with Dutch club ADO Den Haag where he signed a one year deal last September. However, his stay ended prematurely after four months and with him only making five club appearances. He is currently a free agent and had a trial with English club Sheffield Wednesday, now in the English third tier (League One) in March but the club opted not offer him a short term deal.
Morrison was one of the players that impressed Price during the two-game series against Saudi Arabia last November. He was not a part of the team for the March friendly against the United States but Price says that the next two games gives him an opportunity to show what he can do.
"I want see him in a more attacking role to see if he can open up the Serbian defence and make passes for the centre forwards. But he is definitely a good player and one to watch," Price said.
Among the foreign-based layers in the squad, Turgott who play for Swedish club Ostersund could make his international debut for Jamaica today as well as Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Dillon Barnes. Jamaica last played the Serbians in 2014 in the United States where they lost 2-1.
Jamaica will play their final game of the tour against the Japanese Olympic Team in Toyota, Japan on Saturday.
