Cavalier FC’s Kenroy Campbell celebrates scoring against Harbour View FC in the Jamaica Premier League football match at the UWI-JFF Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence in St Andrew yesterday. Cavalier won 1-0.

FOR THE second game running, Cavalier goalkeeper Vino Barclett turned in a Man-of-the-Match performance, which helped his team to 1-0 victory over Harbour View in their Jamaica Premier League (JPL) football match at the UWI-JFF Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence yesterday.

The St Lucian was the only reason Cavalier went in at the break without conceding and in the second half he again came up trumps to keep his team in the match with some fine saves.

And despite the champion's shaky defensive display thus far, the shot-stopper said his defence always feels assured knowing they have a 'wall' in the goal.

"I think this performance is better than the last one (against Portmore) because we always try to build on what we did and improve ourselves," Barclett said.

"We (defence) made a few mistakes, nothing too big because they know they have a wall in the goal," he added.

The team's assistant coach, Everdean Scarlett, credited Barclett for keeping them in the match, but noted they have work to do in defence.

"Harbour View created a lot of chances. We weathered the storm. It (defence) is a cause for concern. We will have to look at it and try to work on it some more. We are not scoring goals, so we are trying to keep it tight at the back," Scarlett analysed.

Harbour must have been cursing their luck at the break as Barclett got the better of Tevin Scott's close range shot early on. Moments later, he pulled off two fine saves to deny Tarick Ximines.

Then late in the half, Travone Reid broke away but again Barclett was equal to the task. Scott also headed another great opportunity over from 12 yards.

After the break, the St.Lucian denied good chances to Reid, Tyrese Williams and Timar Lewis.

Shaneil Thomas had Cavalier's best chance, but he fired just wide of the post.

However, when Dwayne Atkinson's shot was blocked by Amal Knight, the clearance fell to Kenroy Campbell, who volleyed the rebound past Knight from 20 yards with only two minutes to spare.

In the fifth minute of added time, Cavalier's Richard King was given marching orders following a second yellow card for time-wasting.

Harbour View's assistant coach, Sean Fraser, said his attackers were poor in front of goal.

"I thought we created enough chances, but if you do not score goals you cannot win," Fraser remarked.

"We created a few chances in the first half, one-on-one with the goalkeeper, and we just kicked the ball straight to him. If we had finished those chances it would have been a different story," he surmised.

"We should have put them away in the far corner because the keeper was on the post and we kept putting the ball on the same side of the post, so that was disappointing. And when you give up a goal like that with the time left in the game it is heartbreaking," he said.

Cavalier stayed fourth with nine points, four behind leaders Mount Pleasant, who had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Dunbeholden.

Meanwhile, Harbour remain in sixth place on goal difference with five points.

In today's game at the same venue, MoBay United play Tivoli Gardens at 1 p.m., while Arnett Gardens take on Vere United at 3:15 p.m.
