Humble Lion coach Andrew Price commended his team for its resilience after beating Montego Bay United (MBU) 1-0 in their Jamaica Premier League match at Sabina Park yesterday. It was their first win of the season.

Humble Lion had drawn six of their previous eight matches, and although their victory came against bottom-of-the-table MBU, Price praised the effort of his players, especially the seniors, whom he said led from the front.

"We showed some resilience," he said after the game. "Today we had about four senior players at the spine of the team but the rest of the team was youthful players. But we needed to get that victory today and they showed some brittle and fought.

"We have been playing well over the last couple of weeks and even though we were drawing games, we weren't able to get into the win column.

"But we found a way to get three points today and we just need to keep taking it one game at a time.

"We can now build on the platform that we have been given. We pride ourselves on getting our defensive shape right.

"But I told the senior players today that they will have to lead the young ones out there and they did, so it was a team effort and they showed a lot of character to get the three points today."

Humble Lion were the better team from the opening whistle. Just past the half hour, they took the lead when Andre Clennon took a pass from Raylon Paisley and fired inside Davonnie Burton's near post.

MBU were better in the second half and had promising moments but nothing to really trouble the Humble Lion defence.

Both teams ended the match with 10 players after Odane Nash and Rico Edwards were dismissed for an off-the-ball incident.

Leacroft Lettman, in his first game with MBU, said they will have to do some more work defensively.

"We still have to work on our concentration, and in our defensive third, we have to know the danger zone," he said. "We cannot give up free balls like that, when you do, you are going to pay."

The win push Humble Lion one place up the table to ninth, with nine points. MBU stayed bottom on four points.

In the day's other game, Arnett Gardens and 10-man Mount Pleasant drew 1-1.

In today's games at the same venue, Molynes play Cavalier at 3 p.m. and Dunbeholden play Portmore United at 5:15 p.m.
