Charlie ready for Bridgeport
Coach Eugene Williams is confident that Charlie Smith will take three points from their ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup schoolboy football Group C match against Bridgeport today at the Tony Spaulding Complex, starting at 3:30 pm.
Charlie Smith, semi-finalists last season, played to a draw in their opening encounter against Haile Selassie and according to Williams, they are ready for today's match after being inhibited by nerves in the first.
"We are more prepared to play this game. It is a better playing surface and at home, we expect to get three points.
"The first game wasn't Charlie Smith, but I expect the butterflies to come out of my players' stomachs. You are going to see the true Charlie Smith come tomorrow, and I expect my guys to turn up and get a more positive result," said the former Arnett Gardens defender.
Bridgeport are still on a high after Tafari Harriot's late winner gave them a 3-2 win over Edith Dalton James in their first match, and coach Fabian Taylor is looking to continue their good start to the competition.
"The first game was a very positive result for us. We are looking forward to this match against Charlie Smith. We played them last year and won 1-0. We expect a tough game, because teams of that nature are always tough," Taylor said.
"We are looking forward to another positive result. Nothing is impossible and we are going for all three points.
"It is very important that we get a victory. We only won once last year, and to start the season with a win is very positive and we want to build on that," he stated.
Bridgeport and Tivoli Gardens High lead the group with three points, followed by Charlie Smith and Haile Selassie with one point each.
In other Group C matches, Edith Dalton James play Tivoli Gardens and Haile Selassie take on Vauxhall.
