MANCHESTER, England:

Khadija Shaw continued her blazing start to the 2025/26 Women's Super League (WSL), scoring once and providing an assist to lead Manchester City to a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Manchester United on Saturday.

Playing at the Etihad Stadium, Shaw's headed pass was perfectly directed into the path of Rebecca Knaak, who opened the scoring in the 26th minute with a header of her own.

Two minutes before halftime, Shaw got on the scoresheet when she slid in to divert Kerstin Casparij's cross into the back of the net.

It was the Jamaican international's sixth goal in 10 matches and made her the sole top goalscorer in the WSL.

City then made it 3-0 in the first half with Lauren Hemp's powerful shot finding the back of the net in the second minute of added time.

The win helped City extend their lead at the top of the table to three points after defending champions Chelsea were surprisingly held to a draw by Liverpool.

Following the victory, head coach Andree Jeglertz said he was impressed by his team's performance.

"It's fantastic to be top of the league, there is no doubt about that.

"It will give the team confidence that we are doing a lot of good things, but at the same time it's a long league so if we can't keep it until May, it doesn't mean anything," Jeglertz said.
