Top sprint stars to feature in 60m at Puma-JAAA meet
TIA Clayton and Jonielle Smith of MVP Track Club, members of Jamaica's silver medal-winning women's 4x100 metres team at last year's World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, will feature in the 60 metres at Saturday's Puma-JAAA Charlie Fuller Development Meet at GC Foster College.
The meet which begins at 9 a.m. with the women's 3000 metres and ends at 5:10 p.m. with the Class One boys 400 metres will include events for high school and senior athletes. The 60m for both senior males and females will be in the spotlight, featuring some of the country's top sprinters.
The women's 60m, scheduled for 11:30 a.m., will include Clayton, Smith, Barbadian Sada Williams and Bahamian Anthonique Strachan of MVP Track Club, as well as former Edwin Allen High standout Theianna-Lee Terrelonge.
Terrelonge, who aborted her high school season early last year will make her professional debut in the short sprint, representing Uptimum Track Club.
The men's 60 metres, which begins at noon will feature two individual medallists from last year's World Senior Championships -- 100m silver medallist Kishane Thompson of MVP Track Club and 200m bronze medallist Bryan Levell of Uptimum Track Club.
World Championships representatives Adrian Kerr and Ackeem Blake of Dynamic Speed Track Club, along with 400m hurdles specialist Roshawn Clarke of Swept Track Club, are also down to contest the event.
Other track events to be contested at the meet include the women's 400m hurdles and 200m, 800m and 1500m for men and women. Field events will include the long jump for males and females, along with the women's triple jump open.
As usual, outstanding individuals who have been involved with the meet over the years will be honoured, with three set to be recognised on Saturday. They are recorder Carole Long, Michael McIntosh, the coach of Green Island High School, and Mark "Bones" Martin of Digicel fame.
With renovation work expected to start on the GC Foster College track at any time, this could be the final meet at the venue for a while.
