Cavalier FC failed to find the back of the net for the second consecutive game in the Concacaf Caribbean Cup, and were held to a 0-0 draw by Dominican Republic side Salcedo FC in their Group B encounter at the National Stadium last evening.

The result leaves Cavalier third in the standings with two points from two matches. Cibao lead the group with four points, on goal difference, ahead of Salcedo FC, who also have four points.

Despite failing to secure all three points, Cavalier’s goalkeeper Tawayne Lynch was pleased with his team’s defensive effort, but admitted they must become more clinical in front of goal.

“We did not get the three points, but I am happy that we kept a clean sheet. It is good to know that we can come out and get a clean sheet, but we just have to finish the chances when we get them,” Lynch said.

Cavalier, last season’s Jamaica Premier League beaten finalists, started confidently and pushed Salcedo deep into their own half.

Striker Rojay Wright came close to opening the scoring for the hosts in the 15th minute, but his well-struck effort from 10 yards was spectacularly saved by Salcedo’s goalkeeper Favio Marte.

Marte, who produced an outstanding first-half performance, was called into action again minutes later, diving to his left to deny Adrian Reid’s long-range effort.

Salcedo created their best opportunity of the opening period when striker Jairo Alegria rounded Cavalier goalkeeper Lynch, but his weak effort from within 18 yards was cleared off the goal line by a Cavalier defender.

Both teams cancelled each other out after the interval, with neither able to create many clear-cut scoring opportunities.

Cavalier came closest to breaking the deadlock late in the game when Reid’s 25-yard free kick in the 82nd minute was brilliantly turned behind for a corner by Marte.
