Tamar Braxton leaves "Dancing with the stars" due to serious illness

Tamar Braxton, R&B singer and youngest sister of Toni Braxton, has taken an early exit from popular American reality show Dancing With The Stars because of a serious diagnosis she received earlier this week.

Braxton was hospitalized during Monday's rehearsals, and was believed to have had pneumonia after several blood clots were found lodged in her lungs.

However, the blood clots turned out to be something worse - pulmonary embolism, caused by blood clots blocking the flow of blood to the lung artery.

Braxton, 38, took to Instagram today to announce her exit from the show and also posted a picture of herself and her dance instructor on a hospital bed.

"With a Heavy heart I regret to inform you that my season of #dwts has to come to an end," Braxton said.

"I went back to the hospital (after the doctors didn't want me to leave in the first place) only to find out that I don't have pneumonia but something way more serious and that is having several P.E.'s (blood clots in both sides of my lungs)," the post continued.

Braxton and her dance partner were judged on their dress rehearsal performance on Monday's Dancing With The Stars while she was in the emergency room.

Braxton is not the only contestant that's been forced to withdraw from the competition due to health reasons.

Kim Zolciak withdrew in September after she said she suffered a blood clot that caused a "mini-stroke."
