Goodbye, Desmond Ivey

The Ivey Family from Reserve in Trelawny has lost a son, a father and brother. He is Desmond Ivey, an entrepreneur and a Christian, who was born on August 29, 1945. He died on June 13.

At a thanksgiving service held at the Bellevue United Church in Perth Town, Trelawny, on Saturday, Desmond was remembered as a man who tried his hand at any job to earn a living.

Fritz Brown, a cousin, remembered Desmond for his interest in his

community.

"He was instrumental in establishing The Ivey Trust Fund so that the community of Reserve would benefit in some way. Students attending his alma mater, Waldensia Primary, were always benefactors from the fund," Brown said.

Dr Durrant Ivey, one of Desmond's brothers, in the eulogy, painted him as a jack of all trades who mastered many.

"He was a flexible person who learnt carpentry, masonry and was a mechanic. He was a community person and joined the Kiwanis Club in Brooklyn, and rose to the position of president. We remember him for his business principles. He always had a backup plan, and always thinks two steps ahead when making a decision. He was a man who enjoyed spending quality time with his family, which included his wife Kesha and four children.

Desmond's remains were buried in Reserve Cemetery.
