'IF A DIRT A DIRT' ... Bahamas lifts 14-day quarantine order

The Bahamian government has removed the mandatory 14-day quarantine, allowing visitors to the Caribbean country to stay at hotels, go to beaches, "to enjoy some of our world-famous excursions and activities and, most importantly, to abide by our health and safety protocols".

Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Dionisio D'Aguilar said the new regulation came into effect on Sunday and as a result, the Emergency Orders will be revised to reflect that change.

He said that when The Bahamas closed its borders in March to protect against the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, "never did we imagine that seven months later the impact of the virus would remain so severe".

"As a country, we have encountered much hardship from this deadly coronavirus. We have made many sacrifices; have faced huge financial hardship; endured ever-increasing emotional and mental stress; have juggled roles and responsibilities, both personally and professionally; and have had to exponentially change our lifestyles. This has not been easy," he said.

He said, sadly, the COVID-19 pandemic continues to have a devastating impact on global tourism, adding that the latest data from the World Tourism Organization showed that international tourism is down a whopping 70 per cent.

Caribbean nationals urged to vote for Biden-Harris ticket

Today is the date for the presidential elections in the United States of America, and a leading Caribbean American Democratic legislator is calling on Caribbean nationals resident in the North American country to elect former Democratic US Vice-President Joe Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris.

New York State Assemblywoman Rodneyse Bichotte, the daughter of Haitian immigrants, who chairs the Brooklyn Democratic Party, is appealing to Caribbean and other voters to cast ballots against incumbent Republican President Donald J. Trump and Vice-President Mike Pence.

"We've reached the final days of the 2020 election cycle, working together as a borough united for the Brooklyn Democratic Party. Together, we have held over 50 events since Labour Day. Now, we're down to the final days," said Bichotte, in a message to her constituents.

"This is our last chance to help elect the Biden-Harris ticket. Please reach out to people you know who want to help, your friends and family, and post on social media. Let's deliver a message that Brooklyn is truly the bluest county in the country," said Bichotte, who represents the predominantly Caribbean 42nd Assembly District in Brooklyn."
