Jamaica Archive building ransacked

Culprits broke into and ransacked the Jamaica Archives & Records Unit office at Emancipation Square in Spanish Town, St Catherine, the police have confirmed. 

It is reported that about 8:30 a.m., employees turned up to the facility and found that a glass window to the building was smashed. Further checks revealed that several fans were stolen.

The St Catherine North police have launched an investigation.

The Jamaica Archives Unit falls under the Office of the Prime Minister and houses records on the nation's  history. It has been operating since 1962 and has a staff complement of 12.

It was revealed that several tours and research will have to be postponed until normalcy return.

The estimated loss is yet to be ascertained.
