DaCosta favours She's A Maneater for Derby
Trainer Wayne DaCosta would prefer Omar Walker to ride SHE'S A MANEATER at the Jamaica Derby in June if the horse is healthy.
The filly is on the way back from injury and champion trainer DaCosta told STAR Sports that he would be watching her over the next three weeks before Walker decides to will mount her or FEARLESS SAMURAI in the second event in the local triple crown on Saturday, June 24.
"It's a touch-and-go decision right now because SHE'S A MANEATER has been out with an injury," he said.
"Although she has been working well, we plan to race her early next month for about three weeks before the derby, so after that race, he (Walker) will probably make his final decision. It all depends on how she runs in the race," he added.
DaCosta, however, has admitted to having a favourite although he made it clear that the final decision is Walker's.
"It's hard to say because SHE'S A MANEATER has basically done everything, and I think out of the two, she's more likely to stay, so I think I'd prefer to see SHE'S A MANEATER, but it's definitely his decision," he said.
"If she runs fantastic, he might opt to ride her. Right now, I think he is siding with FEARLESS SAMURAI, but it's still a touch-and-go situation because right now, he definitely has the option," he said.
