KSAFA leagues to return soon – Shaw
Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) president, Wayne Shaw, told members at their annual general meeting (AGM) last weekend that football will be returning to the parish in short order, as he expects Government to grant them approval for the sport's return by early March.
Shaw revealed that protocols have already been submitted for competitions at all levels and that based on feedback, he anticipates a favourable response from the ministry come next month.
"We expect that by now and April we will have the resumption of football in Kingston and St Andrew. We want to start out with our youth leagues, under-13, under-15 and under-17 and then we look at playing our senior competitions, Super and Major leagues," he said.
"We have already sent in the protocols and we expect to get a favourable response from the ministry based on our interaction with them. We should get a response from the ministry by the first week in March, and then we will start off with under-13 and under-15 because it is that time of year when we play these competitions.
"Everything is in place and all we are doing now is waiting to get the go ahead, which we expect to get soon," he commented.
Shaw noted that young players looking to take part in their competitions will have to get vaccinated to do so, and that only under-13 players will be exempted from this rule. Specific venues will also be used to host the various competitions.
"We will be playing at specific fields. The fields we are looking at are Constant Spring, Stadium East, Jamaica College and UWI-JFF Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence. And except for under-13 players, all others, under-15 and up will have to be vaccinated or they cannot participate," he stated.
Meanwhile, the association will soon be on the look out for a new general secretary, after Dwayne Dillon notified the organisation that he will be stepping down soon. However, he is yet to hand in his resignation and a date for his departure has not been decided.
