Having exceeded expectations in their first season in operation, chairperson of the Professional Women's Football Jamaica Limited (PWFJL) Christina Hudson said the organisation is ready to begin planning for their second season of the Jamaica Women's Premier League (JWPL).

"I think we did an amazing job," Hudson said.

"The exposure that we were able to get for the players, the improved game day executions, the sponsorships, the visibility; I think that it far exceeded our expectations in the first year.

"I'm very excited to see what we can actually accomplish next year now that we have more time to plan, especially coming off a really great season."

Frazsiers Whip had walked away with their third successive hold on the JWPL title when they downed Cavalier 4-1 in the final at the Ashenheim Stadium, Jamaica College, on Saturday.

Speaking about the season, Hudson said she was pleased with the execution, particularly with broadcasting games on their YouTube channel. This, she explained, brought a new level of visibility to the league.

"I think the importance of the visibility cannot be overstated. It is really something special that hasn't been done before in the women's premier league and it has had a really amazing impact," she said.

"Really, we're proud of the visibility. With our streaming partner Sora Media, we were able to do live-streaming for some of the games."

INCREASED MORALE

Hudson said players and teams alike have been impressed by the improvements in the league and are already looking forward to another year.

She said the increased engagement, both at games and online, have boosted player morale and expectations for the future of women's football.

"I think there was just a general feeling within the players and the clubs that someone really cared about them and someone was really playing attention to them," she said.

"So I think overall morale of the teams and the players were improved this season and I think the teams are excited about going into the next season as well."

Courtney Dowdie, head coach of the reigning champions Frazsiers Whip, was one such stakeholder, who applauded the efforts of the PWFJL.

Dowdie said his players have responded well to the livestream of games and believes it is a positive sign for the league.

"I must credit the organisers for the Jamaica Women's Premier League for what they have done this year," he said. "Giving the girls this exposure in terms of streaming the games, it's commendable, so I have to thank them for coming on board and it has been tremendous this year."

NEXT STEPS

Hudson confirmed the PWFJL has already begun their planning for the next season, which is due to start in November.

She said with the success they had seen this year, she is confident they can attract further corporate sponsorships for the league's operations.

"We're jumping right back into planning for the next season. We haven't confirmed the date but we should be starting in November or December," she said.

"We don't have much time to rest so it's about going back out there, engaging with our sponsors and various stakeholders to start in time for next season."
