Busby not ruling out Hinds - Reggae Girlz head coach says defender’s future still up in the air
Reggae Girlz head coach, Hubert Busby Jr, said the international future of Arsenal defender Taylor Hinds is still "up in the air" and he has not ruled out the player's return to the Reggae Girlz programme.
Hinds, who had made her international debut for Jamaica last year, had seemingly made a U-turn in her international career as she accepted a call-up to England's squad earlier this week.
She will feature in England boss Sarina Wiegman's squad for a pair of international friendlies against Brazil and Australia.
Busby said, however, the defender has not yet made a final decision on her future and is still eligible to represent Jamaica.
"I think she's actually alluded to that; her future is up in the air and she hasn't made a final decision yet," he said.
"We respect that. We've had numerous conversations and communications up to yesterday and we respect her decision at this time," Busby said yesterday.
"As long as they continue to be friendlies, the same way that she played for us and is able to go back, it's the same way that she would still be able to make that decision."
Hinds represented Jamaica once, in an international friendly against France last year.
Busby explained he would have wanted to have the defender in more games, but the process of handling her documents had taken a lot longer than they had expected.
"It's unfortunate in terms of some of the matches we would have liked to get her in previously. But some of the paperwork, and again, some of the things were outside of our control and outside of her control," he explained.
"It's a process that she needed to go through and unfortunately it took a lot longer than expected and (it's) the reason why she couldn't participate in some of the other games."
These delays allowed for England to call-up the player, following their 2025 Euro triumph.
Wiegman, in an interview posted on Onefootball.com, explained they had been monitoring the player for some time, and felt now would be the right time to add her to their programme.
"We have been following Taylor for a long time. Of course, she has gone through the pathway. She has a dual heritage. She's eligible for us and we started having conversations," Wiegman explained.
"We are in a new situation, we are going into a new cycle, (to) qualify for the World Cup hopefully and then go to the World Cup, so I want to see talented players in some positions," she continued.
"I had the conversation with her and she wanted to come in. She feels really close to England and also with Jamaica."
