Son dies after being shot with cop's gun
A policeman attached to the mobile reserve is receiving grief counselling even as his colleagues carry out an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of his two-year-old son.
The child died after being shot in the head neck at his home in Breaton, Portmore, St. Catherine. The shot was fired from the gun of the policeman, Almando McLean.
"I can't say much at this time. The weapon has been seized and the investigation is at a preliminary stage. He (policeman) is receiving counselling," Detective Inspector Homer Morgan of the Portmore CIB told THE STAR.
The policeman reportedly fell asleep and when he woke up he as the child with his gun. The weapon went off and the child was hit.
Reports are that the policeman, in rushing the child to get medical assistance, met in a vehicular accident along a section of the Old Braeton main road. THE STAR was told that the two were subsequently assisted to hospital where the boy was pronounced dead.
