Supermodel Tyra Banks welcomes baby by surrogate
Former supermodel Tyra Banks and her boyfriend Erik Asla on Wednesday welcomed their first child York Asla via surrogate.
Banks who took to Instagram to announce her son's birth to the world stated, "The best present we worked and prayed so hard for is finally here."
Though she only posted a new-born hospital hat, Banks took the time to describe her 'bundle of joy' as she thanked her surrogate and hailed other women around the world who have been struggling with fertility issues.
"He's got my fingers and big eyes and his daddy Erik's mouth and chin. As we thank the angel of a woman that carried our miracle baby boy for us, we pray for everyone who struggles to reach this joyous milestone. York Banks Asla, welcome to the world," Banks said.
Banks, 42, has always spoken frankly about her infertility struggles and confessed to undergoing in vitro fertilisation (IVF) in the hope of conceiving.
Banks used a gestational surrogate to carry her baby, which means that her baby is genetically related to her and genetically unrelated to the surrogate.
