Dquan's Angels Cry gets buzz
New York-based dancehall artiste Dquan is generating airplay worldwide with his single, Angels Cry, released on the Kheilstone Music (KSM) imprint. The song is one of several on the artiste's new mixtape that has been getting a buzz stateside and in Jamaica.
"The people are loving the mixtape, the streets embrace it 100 per cent. The songs are doing well on lots of radio stations worldwide with Dem Nuh Real, Hustle and Angels Cry doing well on the mixtape," said the artiste, whose real name is Damain Staple.
He is also very optimistic about the single, Dem Nuh Real. "New York says Dem Nuh Real is a hit. It de pon every mixtape and the Internet stations and bigger stations are running with it in Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens. Right now, mi a campaign at nuff parties, just a pop up and promote it, and the reaction has been good," he said.
The artiste has been making a name for himself, and he recently performed at a show at the Onyx Lounge.
Dquan grew up in Manchester before migrating to the USA. As an adult, he carved out a reputation in New York performing on dancehall stage shows alongside artistes such as Lady Saw, Mega Shock, Da Professor and Lustah. He also performed at a club show in Trinidad last year.
He has also collaborated with label mate Lustah in Single Lady and Nah Get Weh.
