Actor Leonardo DiCaprio's Oscar win breaks Twitter history

On Sunday night, Leonardo DiCaprio finally won his first Oscar after missing out on five previous occasions. He won the coveted award for his lead role in The Revenant.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the moment Leonardo DiCaprio finally received the golden statue was the most tweeted moment of an Oscar telecast ever based on data from Twitter.  

DiCaprio's big moment fostered more than 440,000 tweets per minute. 

This ousted the previous record of  255,000 Tweets per minute set in 2014 when Oscar host Ellen Degeneres tweeted a star-studded selfie that "broke the Internet".
