Masicka collabs with Busta Rhymes
Take Ova Records artiste Masicka is fast gaining traction in the Caribbean as the next big thing on the dancehall scene in Jamaica.
"Masicka is really taking off in the Caribbean. We are getting lot of booking requests for him, and he will be touring Canada in June. The songs, Hardball, Such Is Life and Buss the Cylinda are already anthems overseas," Corey Todd, Masicka's manager, said.
Masicka performed at a stage show in Laventille, Trinidad, in early February. He has also landed a booking for Barbados in March. In Jamaica, Masicka is also booked for BritJam 'Fire in the City' and the next edition of Igloo, March 29.
"He has shows every weekend all throughout Jamaica," Todd said.
Masicka recently landed international collaborations with American R&B artiste Fantasia, and another with hip hop artiste Busta Rhymes and Kick Rocks, who is known for his work with Major Lazer.
Masicka is stoked about the progress of his career.
"Kick Rocks send me the rhythm for the song with Busta, and I took some time to just listen to it and then record something and send it back to them. They liked it as they said that's the kind of hardcore lyrics they are looking for ... to break into the international market is a must," said the 24-year-old lyricist, born Javaun Fearon.
However, no official dates have been set for the release of these tracks.
Meanwhile, the deejay has recorded for top producers such as ZJ Chrome, ZJ Liquid, Andrew Blacks, Jordon McClure of Chinney Records and Chase Mills Records. The single, Everything Mi Want, on the Cure Pain rhythm, racked up more than 150,000 spins on YouTube in just three weeks.
