DJ Delano makes international mark
Veteran selector Delano has broken yet another barrier for dancehall and reggae music as he is now the first Jamaican selector to be booked for the internationally acclaimed SXSW Music, Film and Interactive Festival currently underway in Austin, Texas.
Delano, who is also slated to perform alongside Jamaican reggae artiste Jovi Rockwell, told THE WEEKEND STAR that his inclusion on the line-up is a big deal for Jamaica.
"It was one of the things on my bucket list. This is simply amazing. This festival brings top artistes across the world, and to be the first selector from Jamaica, it's a groundbreaking move. I am trying to make the most of it," Delano said.
The DJ says his addition to the show comes in wake of reggae's ongoing revival internationally. He added that he plans to use the opportunity to expose young talents.
"It shows that reggae music is reaching out to the world once more. It is positive for Jamaican music because this is a really huge platform. They can expect my style of playing with remixes, yuh know, the Renaissance Delano. I will also expose new talents, as well as play music they already know," Delano said.
SXSW Music Festival will feature over one hundred acts, including ASAP Ferg, Baauer, Future, Mystikal, and Rae Sremmurd.
Although on the bill of this major festival, reggae artiste Jovi Rockwell, known for the single All About Love, has seemingly been missing from the local scene. Her manager, Leslie Cooney, however, said the artiste has been turning heads internationally.
"There are artistes from country music, rock and roll, hip hop, pop, and it's basically like a convergence of music. The festival is an amazing place to be as an artiste and as a spectator," she said.
